The honest comparison
Start with what changed. Craftybase — the tool solo makers used for years to track materials and costs — renamed itself Stocksmith on July 1, 2026, and its homepage no longer speaks to Etsy sellers at all. It now builds for cosmetics brands, food producers, and small-batch manufacturers. The software is still good. It is simply walking away from the kitchen table — and its prices say so.
| Tool | What it costs | Etsy fees per product? | Tax worksheet? | Built for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stocksmith (was Craftybase) | Pro $24/mo (no tax report) · Studio $49/mo · Indie $99/mo · up to $349/mo, metered by order lines | Joins orders and inventory; its Etsy import is, in its own help pages' words, best-effort — items it cannot match never enter the calculation | Schedule C guidance on Studio ($49/mo) and up | Small manufacturers and growing workshops |
| Inventora | Free tier capped at 10 sales/mo · Starter $19/mo billed yearly | No Etsy fee itemization | No | Inventory and recipes on a budget |
| CottageLedger | $79 per tax year (announced; in pre-launch when we checked, November 2026) | Yes, from CSV files | Yes — tax-season shaped | Etsy sellers at tax time |
| A spreadsheet | $3–$16 once, on Etsy itself | Static math — you type every fee yourself | Whatever you build into it | One sale at a time |
| MyKeptMoney | $45 once (founding $35 for the first 100) | Yes — from the files Etsy gives you, line by line | Yes — a Schedule C-shaped worksheet | Solo Etsy makers, all year round |
Prices checked November 2026 against each seller's own pricing pages. Stocksmith tiers from stocksmith.io/pricing; the $24 Pro tier exists but carries no tax report.
You run production batches, need manufacturing schedules and lot traceability, or your workshop has outgrown the kitchen table. That is the shop Stocksmith now builds for, and at that size $49 a month is a fair tool bill.
You are a solo maker grossing a few hundred to a couple of thousand a month, the subscription costs a visible share of what you keep, and your real question is simpler: what did I actually keep on each thing I make? One payment, web-based, works the whole year — not just in January.
The question sellers have typed into Reddit since 2023 is for "software that isn't Craftybase or Inventora, or one with an ongoing fee." That sentence is the product spec we built to.
